Why is the DALI control system preferred for CCT /RGBW LED strips?
Currently, the popular dimming methods for light strips include Triac, 0-10V, 2.4G, ZigBee and DALI. After comparison, DALI is the most suitable and stable professional dimming solution for CCT/RGBW light strips, especially suitable for high-end home decoration, hotels, office buildings, commercial exhibition halls and other scenarios with high requirements for lighting texture.

Core Difference: Ordinary DALI Power Supply vs. Dedicated DALI Power Supply for CCT/RGBW
Standard DALI dimming power supply (DT6): Only supports single-channel brightness adjustment, can only control the brightness of the light, has no color temperature adjustment function, is only compatible with single-color white light and single-color light strips, and is completely unable to drive CCT or RGBW light strips.
DT8-CCT: Dual-output, specifically designed for dual-color temperature light strips, achieving precise warm and cool color mixing with a smooth and seamless color temperature transition.
DT8-RGBW: Four independent outputs (R/G/B/W), supporting full-color gradient, dynamic effects, and pure white normal lighting. High color reproduction accuracy without color deviation.
Is all Dali master workable on the Dali DT8-driver ?
The old-style DALI-1 host (only supporting DT6, early old models of gateways / panels) does not have Tc, RGBWAF commands, no color temperature slider, can only adjust brightness, and CCT/RGBW can only output fixed white light.
Not all Dali master called DALI-2 doesn’t mean it necessarily supports DT8. It depends on whether the product manual indicates support for “Part209 / DT8-Tc / DT8-RGBWAF”. Some low-cost DALI-2 devices only offer basic DT6 functions and do not implement color commands.
Dali dimming Project Operation Checklist (Before Purchase – Refer to Manual)
- Check parameters: Ensure that it specifies support for IEC62386-209 (DT8)
- CCT project: Confirm support for Tc Tunable White
- RGBW project: Confirm support for RGBWAF
- DALI panel: Ordinary DALI push-button panel (only DT6) can only adjust brightness; to adjust color , it must be a DT8 color panel.
What if I have only non-dim driver to light on CCT/RGBW DALI dimming ?
Sometimes due to project time limit, it’s not easy to get the DALI driver quicky, but only non-dim in stock. As an alternative, we could choose additional CCT/RGBW Dali dimmer+ Non-dim driver combination to reach Dali dimming effect.
The dimming operation is not performed by the power supply. The dimming and color adjustment are achieved through PWM within the DALI controller. The power supply is only responsible for providing a stable output of direct current voltage and does not participate in the dimming process.
